Second-Stage Crash Ends Lupton's Day at Talladega

Start: 17th
Stage 1 End: 25th
Stage 2 End: Out
Finish: 36th
Status: Accident
Laps Completed: 32/115
Owner Standings: 30th

  • This was Dylan Lupton’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Talladega Superspeedway
  • Lupton was involved in a seven-car incident on the backstretch on lap 32, which caused terminal damage to the No. 28 Ford Mustang
  • Lupton was running 21st prior to the race-ending accident

“If we didn’t have bad luck, we wouldn’t have any luck at all. It was a rough day for our thinQ Technology Partners Ford Mustang. On that restart, the outside line got going really well and we were moving forward. The guy behind me was pushing me a little bit out of Turn 2 and it got me sideways. I was just a pinball after that. It’s a disappointment being out so early and I hate it for my guys, but that is just superspeedway racing. We will keep working hard, head to Dover and rebound next weekend.”

Lupton Returns to No. 28, Hopes to Demonstrate JGL's Restrictor-Plate Strength

  • This will be Dylan Lupton’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway
  • The 24-year old made one start at Talladega in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2016, finishing 12th
  • Lupton had a strong performance in the season-opening restrictor-plate race at Daytona International Speedway until a crash took him out of contention with just six laps remaining
  • JGL Racing has nine previous Talladega starts with a best finish of fourth (J.J. Yeley in 2015)
  • Ford has six Talladega trophies in the Xfinity Series

“After a weekend off from Xfinity racing, I’m chomping at the bit to get to Talladega. I have one race under my belt at the track in the Truck Series, and I’m looking forward to returning. At the season-opening race at Daytona, we proved that JGL builds great superspeedway cars that can suck up and push really well. We just have to execute all race long and keep our nose clean so that we can contend for the win at the end.”
